Bridging Climate Finance and Agri-SME Growth

We are a catalytic facility designed to bridge the gap between climate finance, financial institutions (FIs), and Agri-SMEs. We work at the intersection of climate finance, enterprise development, market access and policy to strengthen the resilience of agri-SMEs.

The problem we are solving

AgriSMEs in Africa are critical to food systems, rural employment, and economic development, yet they face real challenges such as access to finance and climate change. To make them more resilient, there is need for considered interventions which include:

Policy and Advocacy gaps

Many agri-SMEs operate in policy environments that lack targeted climate adaptation frameworks, resulting in limited incentives, poor alignment with national climate strategies, and exclusion from formal support systems.

Financial Barriers

70% of AgriSMEs in Africa cite lack of access to finance as their biggest barrier; only 2% of private sector climate finance is directed toward AgriSMEs.

Climate Resilience Gap

AgriSMEs employ up to 80% of people in rural areas but receive less than 15% of the available funding.

Sustainability Needs

More than 50% of AgriSMEs report inconsistent market demand as a major barrier to investing in climate resilience.

Market Access Challenges

Over 60% of AgriSMEs struggle with business sustainability due to weak market linkages and fragmented value chains.

Innovation and Technology Gaps

Existing accelerators and incubators support early-stage enterprises, but only 20% focus on AgriSMEs.

Limited Climate Adaptation Support

Less than 10% of AgriSMEs successfully secure formal climate finance, primarily due to complex application processes and high-risk perceptions among lenders
